Thank you to the two bicyclists who saw my drivers license in the street near our local high school, stopped to pick it up, figured out where I live, and rode over to return it! So much for NoVa being the home of the cold and heartless. They didn't even ask what I did for a living before they returned it!

That's awesome! Several years ago I left my wallet in the top shelf of a grocery cart at the Giant in Ashburn Village, and not only did someone find it and turn it into the store without taking anything, but the manager called to let me know before I even realized I didn't have the wallet.

One time this doctor left his Palm phone inside of a phone booth in Phoenix Airport. So on the way back home I hacked thru the phone to find out who owned the phone. I called his house phone from looking him up on whitepages.com. He calls me back thanking me, and I sent his phone back to him.

NoVA is not the home of the cold and the heartless. People are just more stressed than in other places. But I still think people, in general, are honest and good, here and everywhere.

Indeed--great story!

Anyone else listening to Elliot in the Morning today? Couldn't believe he was so gleeful in his assertion that he would look through someone's phone before returning it. And then that jerk called in who'd basically stolen someone's iPhone that he'd found.

I left my wallet on a train in Japan and a while later found it at the police kiosk at the next stop! Unreal.

Exactly. I just get a little frustrated with the people who come here and post about how cold and heartless NoVA residents are. They aren't, you just need to make a bit of a bigger effort to get to know them since we all have more stress here than in a less urban environment.

But its not surprising that people here are honest!

I was joking about NoVa being heartless. I'd been on another NoVa thread where the OP was complaining about how awful NoVa is. Sometimes I think people are in my head and can follow my train of thought. Sorry.

I've lived here since '71 and while there are jerks here, there are jerks everywhere. I try to avoid them and concentrate my efforts on the non-jerks.
