I work in Vienna, and am looking to buy a house either in Ashburn/Leesburg area or Haymarket VA.

Which commute do you think will work out better for me.

I would say Ashburn (maybe not Leesburg) would be a much easier commute than Haymarket. The toll road typically doesn't become a parking lot as often as 66 in my experience. Depends on where you are in Vienna also.

Ashburn would probably be the fastest (Haymarket would definitely be second), but not by enough to make the difference in buying a home (at least for me anyway). If you find the "home of your dreams" in Ashburn, then buy it...if it's in Haymarket, then buy that one.

Thanks for the replies folks. I was wishing to hear Haymarket as the preferred choice as we found a good house there.

David has a point here, I don't think the commute would be much longer from Haymarket vs. Ashburn, esp after they're done widening 66 upto Gainesville.

I don't think it will be that much worse honestly after they open the additional lanes. Like the PP said, it is the house and community that you come home to that counts. Haymarket is a beautiful area and you really can't go wrong.
