Ok so I see a couple of threads about this topic but they're all years old. With so much construction, low unemployment, traffic anywhere is awful and conflicting reports of the single scene I'm just not sure where to find the best apartment or condo rental.

Please I'm looking for best honest advice.

These are my criteria....

1. $1k -$1,800/mo.
2. 1 Bedroom
3. Windows (LOL)
4. Balcony/Terrace would be nice (any size, but not necessary)
5. Parking (Optional, I may just keep it elsewhere)
6. Furnished ( I'm curious about this but again not a requirement)
7. 21 - 35 age group community
8. Women out number Men ( LOL but gotta ask)
9. Not concerned about commute
10. Bachelor pad
11. Close to Reagan National, CC, Nightlife

I would also consider DC if it is safe area.

Clarendon. It's the epicenter for younger professional nightlife in NOVA. You could also consider Court House, Ballston and Virginia Square as they all run together within a couple of miles of each other. This area is nicknamed "Orange Line Arlington" after the Metrorail line that runs through all of them.

Living right on Wilson Boulevard/near the Metrorail might max out or exceed your budget. However, others here have said that if you look a few blocks (south?) that will increase your options.

Parking will be an extra expense right on Wilson. Other locations, not so much (or at all).

OK, Clarendon area sounds interesting. Can anyone recommend some good apartment/condo buildings?

You will not find a 1bd for $1800 in Clarendon, Courthouse or Ballston.

Furnished apartments are usually CRAZY expensive $3000 to $5000 a month because they are usually targeted to corporations leasing them out for employees that have to spend months in the DC Metro Area.

Best of luck

Default Same boat

Hey, not 31, but 27.

I am going to be working in Tysons and considered living there, but after realizing that i could get a decent place for sub 1700 in the orange line area i was happy.

Just wondering is it okay to live north OR south of the orange line, like within 1/2 mile? Found some places for 1350-1500 (and one for 1650 w/ all util).

Anyways. There seem to be plenty of places around the 1700 range and I have been scanning them for the last few days. Still not sure if I want to deal with the commute but as a biker, i can bike to tysons most of the year then just take the train when need once it finishes. I think people saying claredon will help me a lot though.

... was helpful for me. Also rent.com and CL.

If you're asking whether or not the area within a half-mile radius of the Orange Line is safe, the answer is yes. In fact, that would be for several miles out.

I think you definitely could find something for $1800. It may not be right above a metro station in the "luxury" apartments that developers seem to exclusively build right now, but if you go a half mile north or south of Wilson/Clarendon, there are some older but decent units that would go in that price range (maybe even a little less).

Default Adams Morgan?

Someone mentioned Adams Morgan as an alternative. Is it really filled with drunks? LOL

It's actually supposed to be a pretty nice place to live the rest of the week, but on Friday and Saturday nights it's packed with fresh-out-of-college kids who want to keep partying like they're still in school (not that I would know anything about that... )

To be fair though, the vast majority are concentrated on the strip of bars/restaurants on 18th. Some folks on the DC forum could probably give you more details if you were interested. If you're looking more at DC, also consider Columbia Heights. Very close to Adams Morgan actually, a little cheaper since it's right in the middle of gentrifying, and it's the current "hot" neighborhood for 20-somethings. Quite a few bars and restaurants too. You'd also be on the Yellow line, which can take you to U St. in a few minutes, which is another popular nightlife spot, and National is right on that line as well.
