I'm just looking for some advise. My wife has always really, really wanted to go to a winery. However, I don't drink and I don't really like wine, so I've never really wanted to go to one. Which I guess has always been disappointing for her, but she's been a good sport about it.

Anyway, her birthday is coming, and I want to do something special for her, so I was thinking it might be nice to take her to one. Do you think that would work even though i don't drink or would that be weird? Its probably a stupid question, but I want to make sure its special. Is there a winery in particular that you'd recommend?

We have a good friend who doesn't drink but he and has wife often go with us to the vineyards. It's not weird at all for a non drinker to be at a vineyard. We and our friends particularly like Sunset Hills and Doukenie. Sunset Hills Vineyard in Loudoun County VA Coming Soon to Doukenie Winery!

This Saturday is the Key West Fest at Breaux Vineyards. Breaux Vineyards

Any visit to Breaux is a nice one.

Tarara in Leesburg is beautiful. I used to work at the tasting room there and it is not required that you drink wine in order to enjoy your visit. In fact, you could be the designated driver and bring some of her friends along to celebrate. They have a beautiful picnic area and gorgeous scenic views, and I think they have live music most weekends. There are several wineries out that way.

My advice would be to skip Paradise Springs in Clifton.

Another + for Tarara. Very picturesque, well set up & operated, and makes a great day trip. Decent wines as well - tending to the sweeter side.

If you like beer and she likes wine there is a brewery/winery off of 287 near Lovettsville. I can't remember the name of it....Corcoran or something maybe along those lines.

I love the picnic setting at willowcroft, they let you bring your own cheese/bread etc (Loudoun county)

I also like Prince Michele in Culpeper off 29, free wine tasting

We've been to over 40 different wineries in Virginia. Each one is different and has its own personality. What kind of a place are you looking for? Small and intimate? Big and fun? Want to have a bottle/soda and enjoy the view?

You will not feel out of place at any winery for not drinking.

Here's a few of our favorites:

Sunset Hills - big and very nice tasting room in a newly built barn. I believe they have sodas etc for sale. There are outdoor porches with tables to sit and enjoy the view.

Breaux - Good wine, small tasting room. Large outdoor area next to the vineyards with tables to sit at. Nice property.

Delaplane - Farther out, but the best wine and tasting room in NOVA (IMO). Beautiful view from inside the tasting room and also from the outside deck area. The food is good too.

Bluemont - Great view. Steep trek up the hill. Several tasting room areas.

Barrel Oak - Nice tasting room. Big place with outdoor areas for relaxing. Dog friendly.

Tarara - Nice property.
