My wife and I looked at a house yesterday on Laurel Hill Road in Vienna and really like it. I work close to Fort Meade, so I would like to know, one, some suggested commuting routes between the two areas, and two, what is traffic going to be like at different times. Note: I lived in Northern Virginia for 20 years so I know all about the bad traffic, and especially crossing the American Legion bridge. Just looking for different routes, and what times of the day would work best for my commute.
Thanks!

This recent thread I think has some suggestions for routes, once you get past the "Don't do this if you can possibly avoid it" admonitions (which I agree with).

I'd be looking at Leesburg/Lucketts/Lovettsville if you have to stay in Virginia. 15 to 70 is a longer commute mileage-wise but you'll be dealing with Frederick/Baltimore traffic not DC traffic.

Is this a temporary posting or long-term? If the latter, I echo the other thread about not doing it. NoVa isn't that great to make this commute worth it.
