Is there any way to avoid getting on I-95 to continue my trip South on Rt17 in Fredricksburg? Wiki says I'm stuck with the "south end of concurrency with I-95". I use 17 to get to Hampton Roads. Thanks!

According to Google Maps - you could take Rt. 17 to Rt. 1 South. Right on Route 1 South. Then left on Princess Anne Street, Right on Dixon Street which turns into Tidewater Trail (Rt. 17/Rt. 2).

Possibly cut over to 3 from 17, then take 2 or 301 back to 17 after 95. I just stay on 95/295/64 once I've hit Fredericksburg since that's usually where the traffic finally breaks up.

You don't want to go RT. 1 through downtown Fredericksburg. Stay on the Rt. 1 by-pass.....although, taking I-95 for 2 exits is MUCH faster! Going RT. 1 will have lots of traffic lights. If you are come south on Rt. 17, just get on I-95 for 2 more exits....get off at the Massaponax exit (126, I think) and head south on Rt. 1 for about 1/2 mile....that will put you back on Rt. 17 S. You'll save about 20 mins. doing it that way.
