Some good friends of mine live there, and I stay there when I'm in the area. I love it! It's like it's own little town. Though it lends a little to the "Stepford Wives" with all the homes being duplicated, it has it's own elementary school, park, and coffee shop, shopping, etc... My friends say the association fee is outrageous though.. Something like $300 a month. It includes a gym though.

I could'nt tell you association fee... I don't want to ever live somewhere w/an association, I want my own ideas as to landscaping, colors, etc. - but if Cameron Station is your thing, go for it. We were there again Sunday for the Farmer's Market, if you don't have a "want" for a yard, have a dog (very dog-oriented), like that atmosphere, etc. - it's a very nice area.

Different boats for different folks

Default HOA Fee Not $300/mo!

Hello,

I've lived in Cameron Station for the past six years, and the HOA fee has never been $300/mo. It's currently $97/mo ($289.11 is collected quarterly). If you own a condo, however, then you must pay a condo fee, which may run $300/mo or more. But townhouse owners only pay the HOA fee. The HOA fee is well worth it and CHEAPER than many subdivisions in Alexandria (compare Potomac Greens and Quaker Ridge, for example). For that amount, we get well-maintained grounds, free shuttle bus service to and from the metro, access to the gym, etc. I love this community!

Default Cameron Station

we have friends who have rented there for 2 years - it's a great community - IF you don't need any private outdoor space. I think the amenities are excellent - there are play areas for (older) kids, (but all the homes are townhomes with steep stairways, murder to baby-proof if you have toddlers) walk to restaurants and library, close to the district via car. Somewhat far out on metro. Close to Washington National too. Very attractive, with cafe, convenience store, dry cleaner, etc. in the complex. One of the area's best day care facilities is in the complex too.

I would LOVE to live there, but it's not a good spot for our commute, and we have a toddler so I couldn't see a 4-storey townhome. The areas around are not really dangerous, just a bit older and shabbier.

Hello, I will be moving to DC next month for my husband's job. We have a toddler and 10 month old puppy. We have been focusing on the Cameron Station area, and were curious of any advice/tips/inside info anyone has. I do plan (hope) to get a job in DC and the onsite daycare seems very convenient. Does it have a good reputation? How is the elementary school onsite? How far is the metro from there, etc? Any good info would be appreciated! Thanks!

I can only help you w/the Metro part: the bus line is right in front of Cameron Station - it's about a 10-15 min. ride to the King St. Metro.

When we moved to the area about 2 years ago we looked at Cameron station and it is a great area but it was not the right fit for us. The location is great and the community is excellent but for us, we wanted some personal outside space and the majority of the TH we looked at were 4 stories with the master on the 4th floor. Just like any other area, it helps to know what you are comfortable with.

Thank you ! I'm very unfamiliar with the area, if the bus ride from Cameron Station to the King Street metro is 10-15 minutes, how long is the metro ride from King St to DC?
