Wow, I'm kind of surprised it's only 24 miles between Ashburn and Alexandria. I know there are so many different parts to Alexandria so I guess it's possible. Ashburn just seem so "out there".

I think it's more that our perception of distance is skewed around here. 20 miles in midwest farm country and 20 miles in a dense suburban sprawl setting feel very, very different.

Google maps puts it at 40 miles just typing in Ashburn to Alexandria. I guess if you're on the edge or either jurisdiction you might get closer to 24, but that seems like it'd be tough.

I know it's been discussed, but seriously, reconsider moving back to Ashburn while you still have a soul left.

Just checked, and yeah, it's 31 miles. It is what it is... might have to consider doing 10AM-7PM or 7AM-4PM...

I'd do 7-4 ... from past experience I-66 takes a while to unclog itself post-9am.

Don't know where you're going in Alexandria, but wouldn't getting over to the Fairfax County Parkway and going south, which is generally against traffic better than taking 7 to 495?

I don't know...4 pm is just as bad in the afternoon as 5pm or 6pm. Trafffic starts getting heavy on the highways around 3 - 3:30.

I think you'd be okay 7am to 4pm. You should (generally) be going against traffic on the inner loop coming home. And you'd be out of Ashburn before the mess starts.

Why not rent closer to Alexandria instead of moving back to your house? You'd still get the rental income from your Ashburn property
