Continued from my previous post..
I'd love to hear from ANYONE in the Keller area.
My husband and I will be empty-nesters when our daughter
graduates from VA high school in 2016. Thought
Keller area is nice but VERY concerned about buying high..
prices seem high compared to a yr or 2 yrs ago... what was in
the 400's are now high 500's and 600's people here
in VA are still upside down from our boom. Any info on
areas that are growing and would be better
investment than Keller would be helpful info.
Husband works in Euless, TX. Husband would prefer
a 20-30 commute but will go longer if area is nice and
a good investment.
Also very concerned about fracking and lack of property
rights that we don't have in VA... at least not yet

You should post this in the Texas forum.

Just remember to look at the total tax picture when comparing two places, as different areas will go about getting their money in different ways. But they will get it.

So higher property tax rate vs lower (or no) state income tax. Or sales tax rates. Or car taxes. Or gas taxes. Etc, etc.

Westernlofan I would very much like to chat offline with you about Loudoun County. I have a job opportunity in Sterling and currently live southeast of Houston. We love Texas and are quite nervous at the prospect of relocating to the East Coast.

But, for Texas, it is definitely a give and take. Yes, our property taxes are high (around 3-4% of your property value), but there is no state income tax, food is cheap, gas is cheap, schools are very good (no common core) and the people are quite friendly. But in the Dallas area, you won't be close to any other major cities (aside from Fort Worth). Everything in TX is 4+ hours away which is why we measure distance in hours here...

My mom lives in Grand Prairie, which is just south of Euless. It's full of McMansions that have overtaken farmland. The area has exploded over the past 8 years or so and it is still growing. But it's nice and mostly master planned communities and you can find reasonable housing there. Grapevine is north of Euless and is also very nice. More hills, very quaint old downtown area, and a fantastic large lake recreational area. I know several empty nesters who have retired to this area and absolutely love it. To the west, there's Richland Hills. Kind of expensive there, though.

None of this probably helps you, though. Ha! Sorry.
