I go into DC a lot, almost every weekend - mostly for brunch and nightlife

MoCo and PG not so much, just because my social circle and work is mainly situated within DC and Nova

Yes I have been meaning to do the same, heard great things about the dim sum and Sichuan places in Rockville.

Although my Chinese palate is usually satisfied well enough by the restaurants in Seven Corners.

I cross the bridge most weekends. Annandale to second home on the Eastern Shore of MD. Leaving in a few hours....can't wait to get out on that water!

I'll admit I don't very often. Why not? Because I live down in Woodbridge, and it's a minimum of 45 minutes or an hour to get anywhere "north of the Potomac." We also have kids, and weekends are filled with chores, errands, and events with friends who are local. Finally, I travel to DC 3-4 times per week for work, and I don't feel like making that trip on the weekends, too.

Of course, we're equal opportunity on this, too. We don't go to Tyson's or Chantilly or Falls Church, either, for the same reasons.

We have nothing against DC, Maryland, or other areas of Northern VA. We're just busy.

I'm with you on this one. I am not afraid of going to any of these places. In fact, I have family in the MD 'burbs and wish we got there more often. I loved when I worked downtown in my younger years, but I just don't anymore and don't have a ton of reason to go unless we're going to a baseball game or a museum.

We're busy and our social lives revolve around our little area. I don't even like driving to Tyson's most of the time.

Professional and personal engagements require me to go "north of the Potomac" often...as well as east of the Potomac if we get technical... ;-)

And if we get real technical, I find myself going west of the Potomac (at least the South Branch) for hiking and skiing.

I have family in Alexandria and Woodbridge and whenever I go out there they make it seem like DC is SOO FAR away.
What's the difference between people who live in MD or DC??? The only reason people in MD cross the bridge is to go to work since there are more jobs in VA, and DC people never want to come to VA b/c it's too "suburban" for them.

we have family in MD, but we only go there maybe once a month to visit. We never go to DC. We have kids and we don't like being in the city and hate driving in it. I'm from CA and I refuse to take the subway anywhere. I hear nothing but bad things happening on subways all the time and they just don't seem safe. But we avoid DC as much as we can. My mother in law lives in Brentwood (PG county) and even though my husband goes there to visit her about once a month sometimes more, I only go there if I have to. It's not a safe neighborhood. So, I just feel much safer on the VA side in my own bubble and I'm happy to not explore the area outside of it
