Sort of odd dilemma. Moving to NoVA in December/January. Corporate office is in Alexandria, but daily work will be in Reston area. Will have to venture to Alexandria once every two weeks or so and for two week periods between projects. Was going to live in Alexandria, but going to Reston everyday probably won't work unless I want to spend all my time on the road. Does anyone have any thoughts on place to live (rent) that is at most 1300/month and has access to night life (single, late-20s), and is a fairly safe neighborhood?? THANKS!!

Maybe something like Fair Oaks/Fair Lakes would be reasonably in the middle. Typically it might be considered more suburban, but I'm thinking specifically of a trendy new shopping area (outdoor, like Reston Town Center) that seems very late 20s-ish. And definitely safe, etc.

Sounds like Falls Church is your only option here. That would put you in between; not too far from Reston (where it is just another dead end for night life) and Arlington/Alexandria (where majority of mid to late 20s are, not to mention myself)....and DC as well. I wouldn't live in that side of Fairfax county unless i was buying. Besides, Falls Chuch to Reston is against the traffic if you take 66--Rt.50

I would live in Reston. Make you daily commute as short as possible, and you will enjoy life here so much more. Plus, Reston has some fun nightlife, especially near RTC. Plenty to do nearby if you like outdoor activities. Then, on the days you have to commute to Alexandria you can have fun at some Alexandria spots after work, and avoid the rush hour commute.

Yeah, makes sense. I actually agree.

Here's a third vote for living in Reston. Since you're moving in December/January, I'd also advise you to drive a hard bargain on a rental. That is an extremely slow time of year for landlords and property management in general. The complex I live in has several empty units and I doubt they'll be able to fill them before the holidays. Good luck with the move and the new job.

Reston??? No way! Cities on 267 stretch are pretty much family-oriented. Wrong place to be for 20-somethin' unless buying a condo.

The OP requested some info for a place that was "$1300 a month at most." I know Ballston and Clarendon are the truly cool places for the 20-something set, but I don't know of much in the $1300 price range.

So why not live in Reston and go to Ballston to party? Even if you drive to Ballston 2-3 times a week you will reduce the stress in your life from a hard commute, and cut down on your carbon footprint.

Hey, I lived in Reston when I was in my mid-20s and it was fine. The Reston Town Center is very lively.
