Hey everyone, I was wondering if you guys can tell me how much you pay a month (approx./roughly) for your gas/electric/water/cable etc. summer vs winter. This is geared towards folks who dwell in a duplex/townhouse/SFH. Were moving to NOVA soon and want to get an idea. Thanks in advance!!!!

Townhouse.

Electric: $150/summer $65/winter
Gas: $30/summer $100/winter (gas stove/oven, water heater, furnace & fireplace)
Water: $40
Verizon Fios Internet/Cable bundle: $112 (two whole-home HD DVRs and one SD regular box at the new customer rate)

FWIW, I like the inside temp cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Some people will adjust their thermostats to save pennies. Mine is adjusted for comfort, so my heating/cooling utilities may run a little higher than some.

These numbers will vary widely depending on square footage, townhouse vs. SFH, condition of windows, and many other factors. We currently have a SFH about 1850 sq ft, and we don't have gas anything; everything is electric. So, our gas is $0, electric is nearly $200/month on average, water is about $100/quarter, and our Verizon FiOS is $116/month for 2 HD DVRs, an additional standard receiver box, home phone service, and internet. That Verizon price is only good for the first two years, though, so after our contract ends in March, we'll likely ditch everything but internet and rely just on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc., for tv.

In our townhouse, we had a gas stove, but everything else was still electric. However, we had two shared walls (inside unit), less square footage, and fewer windows. Our electric bill was significantly lower.

1400 sqft condo

Electric - $129 budget billing
Water - Included in rent
Cable -no cable. Who needs cable when you can get OTA HD channels and internet TV like Amazon prime (if you want to add that cost it will be avg $3/month)
Internet - $39.99 (Cox)

2300 sqft SFH

Summer - Thermostat at 78 during the day, 76 at night
Electric - $120
Gas - $25
Water - $100 every 3 months
FiOs - $150 with two tvs (multi room DVR) and 25/20 internet

Winter - Thermostat at 68 all the time
Electric - $60
Gas - $140
Water - $100 every 3 months
FiOs - Same as summer

We have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms so that helps. We have storm windows with older single pane windows. I put the 3M plastic over the windows on the 1st floor in the winter and it helps.
