Out of the maps posted below, which of these do you think would be the most logical and feasible for the (hypothetical) state of Northern Virginia?

I refuse to contemplate any plan of secession that does not include giving Arlington and (half of) Alexandria back to the District of Columbia. Because I'm an originalist.

FWIW, I think the first scenario presents the most cohesive unit although I could see Fauquier and perhaps Spotsylvania County declining to join.

I guess it depends on what one's definition of "Northern Virginia" is as we do receive inquiries on the forum that presume more inclusive definitions like scenarios two and three.

I'd include Loudoun county, Manassas, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Stafford, Prince William and Fredericksburg.

I know technically they're part of the DC metro area but I've never really considered Spotsylvania, King George or Caroline, etc to be part of NoVA. Culturally they don't really have any characteristics of NoVA, once you're out of Fredericksburg everything becomes a lot more southern and slow paced.

Because DC would love nothing more than to screw up those places as well. DC cannot even manage what they have. If people in Arlington wanted to live in DC, they would have moved there in the first place. They are in Arlington to avoid DC.

I think your hardcore isolationists would prefer that it only be Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax. Prince William and Loudoun are still the boonies to them.

None of the above because I wouldn't include anything south of Fredericksburg.

I agree. Nothing south of Fredericksburg, as jillybean720 said. I would lean toward including Fauquier unless they want out. So basically, map #1 minus Spotsy.
