I need to move my AC condenser about 20-25 feet to make room for a deck I am having built in Alexandria (Del Ray). I got one quote for $1300 from one of the bigger HVAC companies in the area, which is about double of what my research told me it might cost. Has anyone had this done? Does the quote seem reasonable or too high? And can anyone recommend a reasonable and reliable HVAC contractor that does this? As I said we would be moving the unit about 20-25 feet, and would need to extend the refrigerant/electrical lines that distance. The new lines would mostly run underneath the new deck. Any info would be helpful, thanks.

All they're doing is reclaiming the refrigerant, then extending the copper tubing and braze , then rewiring the condenser, then put the refrigerant back in. You should get more estimates, that's a little steep.

We had exactly this done this week. The person who renovated our house foolishly put our condenser underneath a deck with far too little clearance. We had it moved about the same distance. We paid $1K for them to move it and also add freon. I think they did a fair job and were done quickly, although they asked us for a shovel (boggles my mind that they didn't think to bring one). I can refer you if you want.
