Hi,

Many realtors in the area write that they are a "certified rental specialist." I was wondering where they get their certification from. I have been Googling this, and I can't find any organization that offers a rental certification program or educational programs on serving as a rental specialist.

If anyone know more about this, I would greatly appreciate your sharing this with me!!! Thanks!!!!

No clue where that comes from. I've never heard of it. Not sure why they would claim a certification unless it's legitimately recognized through the National Association of Realtors. Seems like anyone (like yourself) that does a little homework would quickly see there is no such thing.

Are you sure that you are not confusing "certified rental specialist" with "certified residential specialist"? The latter is a recognized certification. It's one of the certifications listed on L Nobles' realtor.org link.

The National Center for Housing Management offers a rental specialist certification called Certified Occupancy Specialist

Certified Occupancy Specialist

That course is aimed at HUD-subsidized property management and rentals. There is a lot of subsidized rental property in the area.

Default Thanks!

Thank you very much to everyone who has taken the time to respond to my post. I greatly appreciate it!!!! Unfortunately, I am definitely not mistaken about realtors referring to themselves as a certified rental specialist. In fact, you can see for yourself by googling the term. I decided to ask someone who worked for one of the largest firms in my town, and he actually told me that there is no such certification; agents just write it. I find that kind of sad.... I did discover that Weichert Realtors does do some special training on working with rentals so it's possible that agents who complete it then refert to themselves as Certified Rental Specialists, though most of the agent profiles I've looked at appear to not have a connection (present or past) to Weichert. I wish their was a cerification for rentals. Since most realtors in my area prefer just focusing on selling the high-priced homes, I think this would be a nice way to begin my career (and as someone who has rented most of her life, I feel very comfortable and qualified to do it!). Thanks so much again everyone!!!
