I mow my own lawn, but it probably isn't as big as the ones in the NOVA suburbs. I use a push mower. I LOVE push mowers, lol! And I HATE machine noise: mowers, weed whackers, leaf blowers. ugh. Would it kill people to use a broom for a change, instead of those noisy leaf blowers? Sheesh.

Hey, how's this for manly?

A few years ago, my sewer line failed. I was getting bids well north of $15K to replace it (a long line) and the guys in that line of work just seemed a bit shady.

I'm a machinery nut and I had always wanted a backhoe and here was my excuse to buy one. I dug that sewer line up (over 10 feet down) and replaced it myself. I probably didn't save much if anything after spending $13K on that used John Deere hoe but at least I know it was done right! I didn't even need my wife to start the backhoe! You just turn the key and that 4 cylinder diesel roars to life!

I'm a hit in the 'hood with my hoe. Just the other day, a neighbor wanted to plant a large tree he had purchased. I drove over there on the JD and several scoops later the hole was dug. He'd have been out there ALL day with a pick and shovel.

Because although it's a silly question, it's nonetheless too interesting to answer.

By the way, I earn my living as a blacksmith/wilderness firefighter/motorcycle mechanic. That is, when I'm not bow-hunting suburban coyotes.

My personal view is that NOVA *people* in general are busy putting in long hours and or long commutes that if there is yardwork to do - assuming they could afford a house with a yard in this currently expensive region - they would prefer to do something else with their time. It would appear others on this thread share similar sentiments.

I think we've had a bit of light-hearted fun with this thread. It's probably best to end it on a good note.
