Caroline St. Downtown area, lots of neat shops. Can do a walking tour or carriage tour. History? Fredericksburg battlefield visitors center, Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park (U.S. National Park Service) several different battlefields but starting at the visitors center you can walk Sunken Rd and visit the cemetery. Chatham Manor has a great overlook of the town. Food? Lots of little places downtown but my favorite, if you like German, is the The Bavarian Chef in the old train station. What to avoid? Central Park, commercialism on steroids.

Thank you choff5, that's what I was looking for, information from the locals. I guess I picked a good hotel since it's right on Caroline St. Looking forward to seeing your beautiful town and learning more of it's history.

There could not be a truer statement.

How close is it to REALLY good seafood? We are willing to drive to Maryland or any places you recommend. I'm a Florida girl living in land locked North Georgia, I miss my seafood terribly.

There's this place about an hour from Fredburg in Maryland that has good reviews: Morris Point Restaurant - Home.

However, there is also this place in NOVA that's also about an hour drive that amazing food that I love: https://fordsfishshack.com/south-riding/.

Interesting.....someone is visiting Fredericksburg, and you recommend driving over an hour to a strip mall fish place ("amazing" is a very strong word for the food; it's fine) in the heart of suburban sprawl?

In the black hole of seafood in NOVA, it is consistently ranked one of the best if not the best: The 40 dishes Washingtonians shouldn’t live without in 2013 - The Washington Post. Coastal Flats is probably the only thing that even comes close.

Sorry you don't like it.
