I live a couple blocks away. It's not dangerous by any stretch of the imagination. I have seen a couple robberies in front of the mall in the crime blotter but they are few and far between.

As always, don't walk drunk, don't walk with earbuds in your ear, and walk with confidence - you'll be fine.

I read the official Arlington County Police information. Not some third party.

Arlington is by and large extremely safe but there are pockets that have *higher* crime than others. Not necessarily that those areas are dangerous but relatively they have more issues than other parts of Arlington (like N Pershing & Glebe).

Gets a little frustrating that some people can't understand the distinction between "relatively higher crime area" and "high crime area."

I've worked in Ballston for 10+ years. It is a safe area given the number of people who work and now live here. It isn't a no-crime area, as it serves as a transportation hub and also has a variety of bars (I'm counting Ballston as stretching over towards A-Town). There is a very small homeless population, but they are not aggressive. All I can say is that I've never felt unsafe here during the workdays and the occasional evenings out.

From my view, Ballston seems to be a pretty safe place. My former college roommate has been renting an apartment in that area for the past 2 years & she likes it a lot. We really enjoyed our "ladies day out" while riding our bicycles in her neighborhood.
