I have a Hyundai Sonata hybrid and it doesn't have holes for front license plate. This wasn't a problem in NC since NC doesn't require a front license plate. But now that I've registered my car in VA, I need to figure out a way to mount the front license plate onto my car.

Anyone know whether dealers generally will do this for free even though I didn't buy the car from that particular dealership? If not, any particular method people would recommend? I'm a bit apprehensive about drilling holes into the front bumper, but if I have to, I guess I have to...

Not rocket surgery..

Look at front bumper using bracket as a guide.. see the corrosponding dimples in the bumper cover.. I use a seal pick and poke the holes, then use the (3) matching supplied screws in the bag with bracket to secure the bracket.. just snug them, or you will tear the plastic out and screws just spin.

Use the left over (2) screws if they in the car to secure plate to bracket

Take you no more than 2 minutes if you have tools in hand,,, or drive 20 minute to dealer, haggle, wait for somebody to do the work, then drive home.. maybe offer to buy tech a cold beverage from machine for his time..

Hyundai FRONT BUMPER

86519 is the bracket I think. You can pickup a license plate mounting kit from AutoZone in BaileysCrossroads (703)379-4123 and get one of the guys standing out front to mount it for $20. But youd need to order the part first and take it up there with you

Immigration is great!

You don't have to drill holes. 3M Super Strength Molding Tape will hold the license plate on the front bumper just fine. I have had my front plate mounted this way for years. $5 at Walmart.

The license plate holders with just 3M tape will probably work, but for my car (not a Hyundai), I bought model specific license plate holder from ebay or amazon that had 3M tape and screws. I don't think it was more than $10.

I bought a car from a one-plate state once. I asked the guy where the factory front plate bracket was. He said he threw it out. I then insisted that we do a little price adjusting since I was going to have to go buy one.

Anyhow, no car manufacturer builds special cars for one-plate states or countries. The means for attaching a front plate may have been removed, but it was there when it rolled out of the factory.
