My fiance and I are considering moving to Alexandria in the coming months due to a new job (I am no longer wanting to commute from Rockville to Old Town). We've been looking at the brand new apartments in the Potomac Yard area, but have heard mixed reviews about the area in general. Is there anything anyone can tell me about the area - is it generally a safe area? I know it's being built up, but does anyone have any experience with living there now? I'd love to hear any info anyone has about the area, as it's completely new to me and my fiance will likely only be around a few days a month due to his job. Thanks in advance!!

It is a very safe area. Although it's not walkable to a Metro Station, there's the Metro Way Bus that comes every 6 minuts and will take you to the Braddock Road and Crystal City Metro Stations: About | Metroway. A new Metro Station in Potomac Yards will start construction in 2017.

Its a generally safe area. But, there's no subway yet and traffic gets rough during rush hour because of all the new construction.

Speaking of new construction, I would check out the place that you want to live. I have heard that the walls are not very soundproof in some places at Potomac Yards.....

Do you know the name of which building the complaints have come from? I heard that about one of the new buildings but not the other...
