Not trying to sound snarky but a less than 30-45 minute commute around here is a luxury. Many travel well over an hour. I would avoid Maryland at all costs so you don't have to cross the bridge. Traffic is horrendous here and what looks like an easy commute can truly be awful.

Best of luck.

Thanks everyone! Yea we've looked in Herndon too, and I understand the commute I'm sure he'd be open to a longer commute if possible, we've heard of some people living in West Virginia too...is that a terrible commute?

I know several people who come in from WV. There are way too many doing it making the commute on the tiny roads in Western Loudoun a nightmare. Their commutes are over an hour on a good day.

May I ask what you think you will get in WV that you aren't finding closer to his work? Are you looking to own a farm? Have over 3 acres? Not be in a suburb?

It's wonderful that your husband is so open to sacrificing his time, but if you are looking to eventually go back to work too, you would benefit from being more centralized.

May I ask what your budget is? Sterling, Herndon, Leesburg have some areas that are not as good as others....I'm thinking those may be the ones you are calling "decent priced".

Keep in mind it's not the miles, but the congestion. Rule of thumb is generally 2-3 times the mileage in terms of time. If one had to drive 60 miles with no traffic vs drive 20 miles in bumper to bumper traffic and it taking the same amount of time, which commute would you rather have?

I've just found some reasonably priced homes in West Virginia...we have a dog and I'd love for her to actually have a yard to run in, but I know we'd be lucky to get that in the first year. And he's guessing our budget will be around $1,500... maybe more just depends on how the job works out

WV will be an hour (or so) commute, plus $5.25 (each way) in tolls.

Ok, even though I love it, I very, very rarely recommend Middleburg, because of the location. But, you may be able to find a nice farm apartment, and the commute won't be too far to Amazon in Ashburn. It will likely be about 30 minutes. Many allow dogs.....

Here is an option....
