Hello! My husband and I might be moving to Virginia if he gets this job offer (fingers crossed) its located in Ashburn, Va. Just trying to get a head start, what cities are around Ashburn, and are there decent houses or apartments for rent? I think our budget will be between $1,000-$2,000 and he probably would be willing to commute 30-45 minutes. I'm currently a stay at home mom but I worked at Starbucks before I had my son and also have medical field experience so when my son gets older I may try to find work... Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions....

There's a lot of apartment complexes in ashburn. A 2bd room / 2ba will run you around 1700-2100 a mo.

You are likely looking at the top end of your budget. What type of area are you looking for? Ashburn can be described as extremely safe, family friendly, cookie cutter neighborhoods. Nothing wrong with that, and it's a very popular place. Most people who work there commute further in, and woud love to work in Ashburn.

Let me guess....the job is with Verizon?

Leesburg is the closest town (there's been a moratorium on new city charters in VA for ages). It's about a 20 minute drive from downtown ashburn (which I would say is carolina BBQ). Other than that ashburn is a collection of HOAs.

I chuckled at this. "Downtown Ashburn" is very literally just Carolina BBQ.

Stay in Ashburn or immediately surrounding (like Broadlands, Waxpool, Sterling). It is a nice community with a neighborhood feel. You would have zero problems getting a job like Starbucks. The only downside is that it might be considered a bit boring.

Once you rent for a year you can decide where else you might like.

Sterling, Reston, Chantilly, Leesburg are all good - so are parts of Herndon (but you didn't mention it).

DON'T go to Gainesville or anywhere in Maryland. The drives are not worth it!
