If it's up to one hour/each way, I think he will be fine with it, we just don't know yet what his hours might be and what traffic would look like during those hours ( he is a college professor), but it definitely won't be 9-5

If you want a commute that's reliably under 30 minutes then I don't think anywhere in Alexandria would fit the bill. I live closer to Tysons than that (West SPringfield) and my commute during early rush hour was 30-40 minutes.

It sounds like your commute is what's going to control where you can live. West Springfield would be barely within your desired 30-minute commute, and it has excellent schools. Your husband's commute would be pretty long, though.

Springfield to Annapolis would be extremely long. Alexandria at least cuts it somewhat in half because you're essentially just crossing the WW bridge and you're already in MD. Alexandria to Tysons wouldn't be ideal but it'd be tolerable. Tough spot.

All the more reason to wait until you know!

(And what if the job sucks and he quits?)

From what I saw, Alexandria is the closest town in VA for a commute to Annapolis ( I might be wrong), but I am not too enthused at the thought of 495 to Tysons coming from Alexandria ughh

Just weighing my options for now, not making any rushed decisions

That wouldn't be a great commute and there's no way it would fall under your 30-minute limit.

495 to Tysons from Alexandria would be a BREEZE if you are wiling to pay for the HOT lanes.
