We are relocating to the area (most likely Vienna) and want to get a head start on summer activities for our sons. What are some pool club options in the area? There is a house listed that boasts "VW Pool Membership". I'm assuming that means Vienna Woods Swim & Tennis club? Do they allow sale of membership with the sale of a house? We are coming from a community that has a membership-run lake club that's relaxed during the day with slightly nicer evening activities for adults. Not snobby at all. We're looking for something similar. Any info or other alternatives is appreciated.

People who live on the Reston side of Vienna often buy non-member pool passes for the 15 Reston pools.

If you can get a membership with a house, grab it. People do sell their pool memberships at times with their homes as some of the pools have long waiting lists to get into. I think most of the pools in the Vienna area are private memberships. There are some areas where the pool is part of the HOA. While you can get membership elsewhere, such as Reston, you really want to be near your home so your kids meet kids from the neighborhood and their schools. If your kids are swimmers then look at joining the summer swim team at whatever pool you join. Instant activities for the whole family for all of June and July. Summer swim leagues are big in Northern Virginia.

Not a club, but many people use Oak Mar Rec Center for swim lessons. The pool is indoor and heated, so it's available year round.

We always mooch off friends for pools during the summer.

The pools in Vienna all have waiting lists. If you can get a membership to Vienna Woods, grab it! If not, Vienna Aquatic Center has a shorter list plus you can get on a separate rental list, and they offer August only rentals. Most people in Vienna who belong to swim clubs go to Vienna Woods, Vienna Aquatic Center, Dunn Loring Woods, or Cardinal Hill. Some belong to Westwood Country Club.

NP- do Vienna pool memberships to pools with long waiting lists add value to a home for sale and if you could put a monetary value, what would it be?

A family's membership at Vienna Woods is completely separate from its home ownership. A VW club membership currently sells for $1,500 plus a one-time $75 initiation fee. Annual dues of $525 are also required. There are 750 memberships in existence at the present time and a wait list of some 850 names. Wait times to purchase are currently running at 8 to 9 years. It can be a shorter stay (4 to 5 years) on the wait-list to rent a membership.
