What is the best way to go into DC, on a weekday, from Manassas to sightsee? Would it be by bus, train, metro? It would be all day on a weekday. Thanks!

Parking is cheap and available on the weekends. You can use an app like Parking Panda to find a parking spot or lot.

But it's not that simple, Einstein.... I-66 is restricted to HOV vehicles (ride-sharers) - or to hybrid-fuel cars - much of the time on weekdays.

Do you already live in Manassas (or visiting someone there)? If not, I would strongly advise against using Manassas as a base for visiting Washington - especially on weekdays. For one thing, I-66 is limited to high-occupancy vehicles, much of the day. Traffic everywhere is horrendous. Weekends are much easier, traffic significantly lighter, and parking more available at Metrorail stations (and to a certain extent more available in D.C. too).

Delay your start and by delay I mean wait until 10AM to leave. You can drive in but you'll be hunting for parking in DC but at least you can stay until after the evening rush hour dies now. Use the traffic feature on Googlemaps on your phone to keep an eye on traffic for your route. You can also stop at the first metro (Vienna) and go from there. Assuming you can find parking. Not sure what it looks like there late AM but others here probably will. BTW. 66 is your option but getting to it depends on where in Manassas.

YES, it IS that simple. What happened to the days when people used COMMON SENSE to figure out answers to simple questions like this?????

I would use parkingpanda.com to reserve a parking spot in the vicinity of where I'm visiting, and then drive in (avoiding the rush hours & HOV restrictions, of course).

The other alternative would be to drive to the Vienna metro stop and take that into the city.

Well, OP asked for opinions on the best way to get into DC on a weekday, which may or may not be by taking I-66.

Sure, someone can look at Google maps, but Google maps isn't going to indicate if it's best/easiest to drive, take metro or bus. Oftentimes, it's best to ask the opinions of locals.

You could drive straight in. Leaving at 10am should get you past most of rush hour. Parking is plentiful around the mall that time a day. Just pay attention to parking signs and don't keep your car parked on main roads like Independence Avenue parking during the afternoon rush hour -- they will tow!

If you're nervous about city driving/parking, just drive to Vienna and take the train in. That's pretty easy and I think parking at Vienna is pretty easy these days now that the Silver Line has opened.
