That's a big area. Fairfax/Burke is probably your best bet right now for mid-range schools. Woodson, Lake Braddock, and Robinson pyramids. Vienna is nice, but expensive.

Madison high school is the best although McLean is also very good. I would avoid Marshall, they have the silly IB program which doesn't help students with college credits. IB is in all the bad schools in Fairfax. The good schools all have the AP program.

Louise Archer Elementary in Vienna has a gifted program within the school. It's a good school. Vienna Elementary also draws from a good area. Mosby, less so.

You can buy into any school pyramid in NoVa for less than $1 million, including Langley, the most expensive. So it really does depend on what you're prepared to spend.

You can get college credit for IB tests. Weird Marshall-bashing here. Seems like a little insecurity that Marshall is now very close to catching up to Madison/McLean.

Also look at "safe and sound" tab for offenses. I found this shocking on the Alcohol and Weapons charges.

Make sure you check a lot of schools if you're going to look at this tab so that you have an idea what is typical. If you look at one school in isolation it doesn't tell you much, really.

From having looked at some of the "Safe and Sound' reporting, my take was that the administrators exercise a fair amount of discretion in what and how they report in this category. The numbers bounce around from year to year, and the reported incidents at schools that, for the most part, seem quite similar can vary widely as well.

I know an elementary school kid personally who got a weapons charge for an origami Star Wars blaster. Take this stuff with a grain of salt.
