I think you might something more reasonable by taking a taxi at Dulles to a nearby off-site car rental agency, such as in neighboring Sterling. When our car was at a body shop two years ago, the shop set us up with an Enterprise agency nearby, and we were very pleased with the experience. That outlet is about three or four miles from the airport, but is closed on Sundays:

Enterprise Rent A Car
202 Lane Court, Suite B
Sterling, VA
703-464-3391

There is another Enterprise outlet a bit farther away, at 45664 Woodlands Court in Sterling, 703-444-6360, also closed on Sundays. I'm guessing it's about 8 to 10 miles from the airport.

It might be worth your while to check them both out. It's possible the one closer to the airport may have a shuttle service, while the one farther away might be cheaper precisely because of distance.

Good luck.

Wow, you're such a big ray of effing sunshine, aren't you?

The reason I asked was maybe some kind of regulations in your area might have changed, tax rates, fees increased to pay for something, anything like that. Nearly tripling in rates in one year just seems strange, not a natural increase. It was October when I visited last year, and this will be middle of September.

Those suggesting look at another agency, yes I have and they are all similar in price. I have considered finding an off-site, I just need to look further into the area at what the options are.

Last time my daughter visited she found the rate were higher than usual and ended up getting a rental car from Enterprise on Elden Street in Herndon.

I don't know of anything during mid September which would call for an increase like that. It's not a busy time like Cherry Blossom season or summer holiday. No clue. In general, days during the week are more expensive than weekends so perhaps the days shifted enough from your last trip that you have more weekdays? I know you said that both were week-long trips though.

And the quoted prices say they are for a full week.

Off site looks like my best option right now if I decide I need a car, which I'm talking to family and trying to figure everything out.

This thread may be closed but why knock on the guy. U can get a rental car from every major car company if you wait until the last minute to book or even go without a reservation to the counter. They want your biz . I've gone there dozens of times. The thing is iad has literally thousands of rentals (at least as the enterprise manager told me ) you can even get into luxury rentals like sports cars for a steep discountm. I see on kayak now a rental for tonight is priced at 17 dollar a day, so like 140 a week. Hope this helps !
