Thanks for all the input! I will keep an eye out for those places next year. I can not do DC because I will be working in Fairfax and I want to minimize my commute.

It might have already been mentioned but you should check out the Mosaic District as well. If I had to choose between Mosaic and Reston Town Center, I'd go with RTC but since you'll be in Fairfax, Mosaic will be much more convenient.

Mosaic is a great and lively area. The larger Merrifield area will be increasingly walkable with the coming development but right now you would be car reliant for a variety of things.
