So, like clockwork, I received a notice for Jury Duty (Pettit) - I've gone before but never been selected. I would actually like to witness/be a part of a trial - this time though, it's bad timing - getting some remodeling done and I want/need to be here for that. How should I handle this? Also new to me is the notice on it that says to call a number upon receipt (bad me, I received a couple hrs. ago and haven't).

You should be able to postpone your report date. Call and ask for an extension. I served on two trials, very interesting. Both we voted on the guilt of the defendant.

Thanks! I've shown up before (probably 5 times or so) but didn't get in the "raffle" - I'll see if postponing is an option.

Being selected is NOT what you think! I would NEVER, EVER wish to be on a jury...did it once...horrible! You don't get all the info you need to make an informed decision, and if you ask for more info, the judge will say you have to decide based on what you heard....

Nope..not fun at all.

I did this for Alexandria City a few years ago. I had it postponed until after a vacation. The week I was up, My group didn't even get called to the courthouse.

I don't know if this is just weird luck, but three members of my household (Fairfax County) got Jury Duty questionnaires last week. Does Fairfax have that large of a jury pool or do we just have really odd luck?

This is the first time I've been called in my life.

I get summoned, every time, as soon as I'm eligible again (2 yrs.)

I have been eligible to serve for over 20 years and, in that time, I have lived in three different states; and two different counties within Virginia. I have only received a Jury Duty summons ONCE (two years ago) and it only required that I call the night before, when I learned that I didn't need to go.

Ha, at least you're not being called for jury duty in another state where the admin folks rarely pick up the phone and when they do, they give you considerable attitude for no reason. THAT was a hassle that took a lot longer than necessary to sort out.
