I've been researching retail options for him to get settled in and start to have a work history in the US (his verbal English is great, written is decent, not much experience working with computers, but a fast learner, great work ethic). Trader Joes, Costco, Wegmans, & Startbucks look like good options for him. I am hoping he won't have problems finding work because of being an immigrant.....with a green card at least he wont have to worry about being illegal and looking for work!
He should try Marriott corporate up in Bethesda

These are all very good options but incredibly hard to get into for some reason. I know people, without the immigrant issue, that have tried and tried Costco and Starbucks. You may have some luck at Wegman's for sure especially if he's willing to do overnight shift work for stocking (stores aren't open 24 hours for customer service).

I'm a resident of NoVa, and I live in SE Asia. Not only are housing costs quite high; you will be shocked, when you see how much health insurance is, with a massive deductible. 18.50 Pesos to the USD...I would move to Hermosillo, Mexico before I moved back to NoVa..a lot more white folks, for one thing, and they have Home Depot and Sam's Club. Not only are you going to be "en problemas" financially; you are going to freeze your butts off this Winter. NoVa is one of the last places on the planet to live, unless you are making relatively good money, and even then, it is not enough for many. A friend moved to Armenia, Colombia five years ago...his Colombian wife wanted to move to New Jersey...He told her to go ahead, but he was enjoying the heck out of his 250 usd per week teaching job, and had zero desire to return.
