Or a James Bond villain's secret project--a new country he's building out in the ocean, using workers who are clones of himself, guarded by an army of stunningly beautiful women with names like Candy Booty. ("I must be dreaming.")
To be fair, "Tyson's Corner" sounds like some hick town in rural Arkansas. (I refuse to drop either the apostrophe or the "Corner.")
Or the name of a short-lived SUV - "if you're flush with cash to to guzzle gas, the Konterra comes loaded with all the flash!"
(Sorry, OP, but I don't think most folks in NoVa are really familiar enough with this project to have much of an opinion.)
It reminds me of the British steamship Canberra (1961-1997), a much loved ship of the P&O Line. She was built in the same yard that built the Titanic. She distinguished herself as a troopship during the Falkland Islands War (along with the QE2).
I think Canberra is also a city in Australia...but I like boats better than cities!
About this Konterra thing....I don't think Tysons Corner has the slightest reason to worry. PG County is just too screwed up.
I am more concerned with other, close-in developments in PG attracting NOVA employers/residents than Konterra
1. It's in Laurel, beyond the outer-beltway (MD200), nowhere near Metro and only accessible via MARC.
2. The county would likely focus more resources on National Harbor and PG Plaza as one is a proven establishment and the other is on the metro line and an FBI HQ candidate.
3. When was the last time you heard anyone declared enthusiastically that he/she is moving to PG County? :-)
I think their could be potential for the green line to extend. It is closer to D.C then you think.

I don't think there's any reasoning with people like you. You'll just hate everything PG county does.
It started out the same way - "can Konterra be the next Tysons?" A bunch of people said that wasn't too likely and then some others chimed in that Tysons wasn't so great, anyway.
The take-away seemed to be that it would take a long time for this development to materialize and that comparisons to Tysons were premature.
Again, I honestly don't think most people in NoVa have paid any attention to it. It doesn't mean that development in PG isn't welcome, but it's just not on our radar screen. The fact that so many Maryland residents keep coming to Tysons to shop sends a message that there's nothing similar there now.

Have all of you forgotten the great "Raljon?" This sobriquet never really lasted, and never had legs...
