I used to take the Penn line from Odenton to DC it cost 125 a month which is about 27 miles. If you take VRE from Woodbridge to DC it's 217 a month around the same mileage.

I feel VRE is slower than metro. I think they clock around 35-40 mph.
I got that feeling as well yesterday when I rode for the first time, however I got to work in less time than taking the metro, didn't have to switch lines, and driving to the station there was no traffic there or back, so I am definitely considering going for the full monty next month.

Another stupid question, do I put my ticket on my seat or the one in front of me?

I used to take the VRE from Broad Run to Crystal City. I wasn't very happy about the seemingly too-frequent delays but what capped the day was the stampede to the parking lot. Piper Lane, exiting the parking lot onto Nokesville Road was (is?) a single lane with a long traffic light at the end. The rush to get to your car quickly and avoid the long wait looked amazingly like the Running of the Bulls as people fought to be the first to exit the lot. Pushing, shoving, leaping over bushes and fallen riders alike was an everyday thing. Is that still the case?

I hear there's a parking garage there now. If so, and if the traffic condition is still the same, I'm sure it makes for an interesting sight.

Broad Run still has a single lane to Nokesville Road, and you probably wait 5 minutes Max at the light.

It's really funny to see everybody sprinting to their cars, like its their last chance.

It's much beter now going out of piper onto 28, because 28 has been widened and the bridges are complete. When's the last time you rode the train ??

It's been a few years. All the work on 28 and the bridges was completed afterwards. My commute is much better now.

I have been wondering the same thing about the Broad Run VRE? I will be moving to Gainesville in about a month and plan to take the VRE daily. I am 7 months pregnant and don't want to be pushed and shoved while getting off the train. Am I better off going to Manassas? Or have things at Broad Run calmed down?

No, don't park at the Manassas station because you may need to buy a monthly parking pass if you're not a resident of the City. In addition, traffic in Manassas is bad during rush hour, assuming you will be taking 28 (center st, centreville rd, nokesville rd) to Linton Hall Road.

You probably will not get shoved getting off the train, but there are some inconsiderate people (at all ages) riding the first 3 cars of the train who are always in a rush to get home.

I suggest sitting towards the middle or back of the train if getting off at Broad Run. 1st because the walk is good for you, and 2nd when you get to your car, the crowd will be gone.
