I am considering a job that will require me to commute from Ellicott City, MD to Chantilly, VA. The only reason I am considering this is because the job in NoVA will pay about 55% more than my current salary. My family is happy in Ellicott City and do not want to move. I have two girls in Elementary School and husband works in MD.
I am concerned that I will start this job and immediately regret it. They said they will let me do compressed schedule (10 hour 4 days schedule) after about a month. The winter will be approaching and I am scared that this will further impact the drive.
I'd like to get wise opinions of the NoVA residents, and also fellow MD - VA commuters to see if this would be worth it. Thanks in advance.

From someone who does a 90 minute commute (each way) and actually does not mind it, I do not see how this is worth it.

there's no need for any insult and calling someone a troll.

That commute would be pretty horrible. I do VA to MD now, but reverse is much tougher traffic.

This would probably take 2-2.5 hr each way.

I commuted from Chantilly to Colesville one day last week and I was half dead (mentally and physically) by the time I got home. The reserve route won't be any better/different since both sides of the beltway are equally bad morning and evening.

It took me 1.5 hours in early morning (6:30) to Colesville, and 2.5 hours back to Chantilly, bumper to bumper most of the way. That's Colesville. Ellicott City will be even worse.
