If we're in Tysons or Vienna, what emergency room should we go to? I did a quick search and most places that come up are urgent care facilities which dont really fit the bill if I have a gushing wound.

You are probably closest to Inova Fairfax.

Your best bet. I've been to Va Hosp. Center/Arlington and Inova Fairfax, and the latter is better on all counts. Plus for you it's right there.

They probably fit the bill better than wasting time asking in an online forum.

It depends. If you have to be transferred, you incur exponentially more costs. Even if you have a great health plan like us, you end up paying for two ER copays.

Yes, but you automatically go to the head of the line if you are transferred by an Urgent Care. I'd pay two separate ER co-pays to not have to sit in a waiting room for two hours before being seen.

INOVA Fair Oaks will be a lot less busy and is fine for something simple like needing stitches. INOVA actually posts their predicted wait times.

I can't agree with Fair Oaks being faster or better. I once sat there with a major post-surgery complication for nearly 4 hours, and when I was finally called the place was absolutely disgustingly, dangerously dirty. The bathroom looked like something from a truck stop, but dirtier, the nurse was rude and completely inexperienced - I would never go there again.

Fairfax is much better. Better nurses, better everything. Even my doctor told me that I should go there whenever possible.

Something like needing stitches would be better off in a Patient First or Urgent Care.

Ha. Thanks for all the responses. I'm not in need of care, I just threw out a hypothetical situation.

I've been to urgent care places before and don't really like them; never saw a doctor, at best it was a PA, and the nurses or nurse assistants didn't seem to have much knowledge.
