Can someone suggest towns in VA where I can find a 4 BR house with a backyard and pool - commuting distance to Georgetown, DC. Falls Church & Alexandria do not seem to have homes with large backyards. I would prefer not to be a "townie" and would prefer to have neighbors right next door.

Since you are posting this in NoVA, I will say Great Falls, McLean, Vienna (smaller yards).

How large of a back yard is large? There's some with half an acre to an acre lot sizes not far from Alexandria.

Mclean and Vienna have some large houses with big yards in 'em.

You are mostly looking at the million+ range, sometimes a couple mil.

Part of the problem is this is not a big backyard pool area; NOVA is very big on community pools.

Exactly. Even very wealthy areas ere to the side of community pools.

Use Google Earth or another app with aerial maps and you will see that backyard swimming pools are very much a rarity in this area. For ease of commute to Georgetown plus large yard, I'll echo others and say Great Falls or McLean.

I know one in my neighborhood that's for sale right now with a pool, but not a huge backyard (I'd consider it a nice backyard, but it's no, say, acre to run around in).

I have to agree with the pool thing, NOVA is not very big on pools, it's not like LA where even houses in the ghetto have pools

Since the OP hasn't returned to thank anyone for their inputs, maybe s/he's decided to move elsewhere.
