Hello,

My wife and I are moving to Northern Virginia for a job I've been offered in Warrenton. We would like to live anywhere in between Winchester and Warrenton, but keeping the commute down to 40 minutes or less would be great. Work hours will be M-F 8-5.

The reason we would like to be toward Winchester is because my family lives west of Winchester. We have no preference between city or country life, we enjoy both.

Is the commute to Warrenton from Front Royal bad?

Can anyone compare Front Royal to Warrenton? housing prices? restaurants? etc.

Also what is the best way to find a rental? There doesn't seem to be much online. Is it maybe better to go pick up some newspapers?

Thanks!

Hard to make a recommendation without knowing budget/ how much land and so on. I-81 can be a royal PITA at times but you may consider Stephens City. That should be around 45 minutes to Warrenton. Unless there is a crash or road construction this is doable most days. I'd visit Front Royal before looking further there. I work there but would not live there. Although the area, outside the town limits, is in a very beautiful mountain area. Front Royal needs some serious updating and the town seems hell bent on making no serious improvements. Also a pretty poor area and it shows in many neighborhoods. The schools are not looked on very favorably by many people but I do believe things have improved in this area over the years.

The commute to Warrenton from most any area out this way is not bad----the vast majority of time. The lousy NOVA traffic starts usually around the Gainesville area.

If you want to still consider the Front Royal area spread your search out through Warren County which includes Front Royal. But look to the east of FR out to the far boundaries before hitting Fauquier Co, which Warrenton sits in. Fauquier is a more expensive area.

Oh yeah. I can only suggest using a realtor to help with rentals.

Thanks Bigfoot424,

Stephens City looks pretty nice. We are trying to keep the rent below 1800/mo and still have a 3br/2ba house.
