Trying to remember details about the Evans stores. There were stores in the Washington Metropolitan area...VA, MD, DC ....a friend mentioned it and now I'm wracking my brain trying to remember about it.

IIRC, Evans was set up with products on display. If you saw something you wanted, you went to a cashier and gave him/her the info. If it was in stock, they would have someone go in the back and get it for you. They used to have good prices.

The first one we ever went to was in Arlington on Glebe Road at the intersection with Route 50. There also was one in Herndon that we also visited.

Yes, I remember those stores. There was another by a different name also but I can't place it.

When I moved to Maine and the New England area for a time they had Service Merchandise and it had the same theme.

I remember Service Merchandise. There was another one like that too... was it called Best? Not sure. I remember those from when I lived in Colorado in the 80s and 90s.
