South Arlington along Columbia Pike has some decent places for the money. 10 minute bus ride to Ballston.

Wildwood Park/Towers
2100/2200 Columbia Pike

Should fit within your budget. You might be able to find a condo to rent for 1800 in Ballston itself too.

Thank you. Are there other areas besides Ballston you’d recommend? I like areas that have a community feel as I used to live in Town of vienna and loved it

Vienna would be a good choice.

Since you used to live in Vienna you should know the area.

There are a lot of areas to look in, most would be a downgrade from Vienna though. Falls Church City is where I would start. Anywhere between on 29 may be good. Mozaic may be doable. Annandale, but I am not sure of the school system. I would not rule out Shirtlington.

Daughter and husband lived in Mosaic and enjoyed it but the rents are really going up there.

Plus, since you have a child, won’t you need a two bedroom apartment? The rent will be higher.

My issue with Vienna is the commute. How bad is teh commute from Vienna to Ballston? Yes, eventually I'd need a 2 bedroom but my daughter doesn't currently live with me and won't be for a year, so it will just be for me now, but I want an area that is decent so I don't have to move too far away once she joins me. Thanks

What time are you going to be traveling from Vienna to Ballston? Do you have conventional work hours or can you start early and leave early (or start late/ leave late)? Are you ok with taking the Metro or would you prefer to drive?

I would prefer to drive and commute would probably be an 8-5. Thanks

I honestly don't think you will be able to make it from Vienna to Ballston in 30 minutes at those hours unless you are willing to carpool or pay to drive in HOT lanes on 66 ($$$$$). Have you considered looking at apartments off W. Broad Street in Falls Church? They've built a number of new complexes in that area and there should definitely be 1 bedrooms in your price range.
