So, what do people think about Fredericksburg, VA vs. Frederick, MD? Which is a better place to live and why? Both cities are rapidly growing outer suburbs at the current edge of the DC metropolitan area but are also distinct cities and communities of their own with their own histories and identities as well. Cross posted on Washington, DC suburbs in Maryland forum as well.

I like Frederick in the end over Fredericksburg for two reasons. The countryside around Frederick is more rural and nicer whereas Fredericksburg becomes a PITA thanks to I 95. While 70 and 270 in MD have their own issues no interstate is as bad as 95. Both have plenty of history and their own identities and of course MD is not one of my favorite states. I'm not anti liberal but I am bothered by their softer stance on crime and criminals. But because of 95 I'd have to go with Frederick.

I would pick Fredrick MD. That’s a cool place with fun people. I agree that the area around has a lot more to offer. I always think of traffic when I think of Fredericksburg and it doesn’t feel quite as refined.

I like Frederick's downtown better. I also like how you have access to Baltimore as well as DC in about the same amount of time.

Frederick, MD, is significantly larger than Fredericksburg, VA. Comparing them is a little like comparing apples and oranges.

Regardless, I'll give my vote to Federicksburg, VA. Granted, I like both cities, but I prefer Virginia to Maryland. And while
I-95 can be a headache any day of the week, I prefer I-95 traffic to the twisty four-lane I-270 alignment in upper Montgomery and Frederick Counties.

Frederick has 15, 70, 270 and 340. Fredericksburg has i-95. While all of those roads are jam packed, i-95 is the worst.
