New to unemployment here does anyone know how it works I gave received my letter debit card and had my hearing call on the phone. I continue to call in my claims weekly. But here is my situation I quit my job because of the stressful environment I was in & on top of that it was affecting my health. When I call it says i have a disqualification on my last weeks claim??? Can anyone explain what that means

You don't get unemployment when you quit a job, unless you quit for good cause and I don't think a stressful work environment would qualify.

You should post in the Unemployment section.

I doubt very much that you would ever receive anything, not in Virginia anyway, but it's worth a try if you want to fight it. It will be a hard nut to crack though.

In my opinion anyway.

It means they have determined that you don't qualify for benefits. But you can try to appeal that decision.

Folks that hang out in the Unemployment Forum that Spencgr linked might be able to provide some guidance.

Yeah, unfortunately for the OP, although I’ve never had experience with unemployment, I don’t think you qualify if you quit. If that were the case, it would cause havoc because a lot of people who don’t like their jobs would be quitting and collecting unemployment while looking for another job. This goes back to the old adage I have always been told; NEVER quit before you have a new job lined up (official, in writing). If you are fired, that is out of your control, but NEVER quit. It looks like the OP hasn’t returned after her first post, so unfortunately things didn’t work out. Hoping things work out for her in the long-run

If you quite because of a hostile work environment, or if you were going to be fired (but resigned instead) due to unjust/unfair reasons (i.e. whistle-blowing or refusing unwanted "attention") then you may have have standing, but each state is different. Some states also allow quitting for reasons to be with a family member, such as an ill sibling or spouse.

You probably should have researched how unemployment works before up and quitting your job. You don't get unemployment compensation if you voluntarily QUIT.
