Job opportunity in Alexandria (Eisenhower East / SW Quad) likely 3-4 days a week and Tyson’s Corner (near Tyson’s Galleria Mall) 1-2 days a week (Alexandria is the base). Currently live in CT. Wife would work remote, accessibility to DC for weekends, late 30’s with a dog. Not crazy into bars but restaurants, shopping, walkability to would be plus. Coming from a 2000 sq ft 3 bed 2.5 bath house with a fenced in yard. Going to be an adjustment, rent since likely would only be here for 2-3 years. 2 baths would be ideal, 2-3 bedrooms, parking spot for at least 1 car, ~$3000 / month housing (could spend more if necessary). Complexes with door to the outside and some outdoor space that is own would be ideal. Community pool and gym also a big plus.

I’m not so concerned about the 1-2 days a week to Tyson’s corner as far as commute (might be 6 days per month). Obviously shorter the better but 45 minutes or less would be ideal.

Advice? Concerns? Thoughts? Any guidance to steer into the right direction? Safety is a huge priority. I want me wife to be able to walk the dog and feel comfortable. Nearby park would also be ideal. We like less cookie cutter/chains in terms of restaurants but do like modern/updated when it comes to living accommodations (not into 1920’s charm).

Thank you in advance.

Perhaps, living by the Rosslyn Metro station might work. Rosslyn is where the blue, orange and silver lines meet at the Metro station. On days you go to Alexandria, you can take the blue line to King Street, then transfer to the yellow line to get to Eisenhower. On days you work at Tysons, you could take the silver line to Tysons Corner. This, of course, is dependent on whether or not you want to use Metrorail to get to and from work and if both job locations are within walking distance from the Metrorail stations. Of course, both station have bus connections if you can't easily walk to your job.

Might want to check out Kingstowne- you could easily rent a townhome with that budget. The community has pools, rec centers, tennis courts, walking trails and more. It most likely wouldn't be walkable to shops but there is a small shopping center that would be a short drive and Springfield town center would also be right down the street, it has plenty of shopping and more restaurants. It shouldn't be too bad of a commute to either work place- its also really easy to zip into DC either via the highway or the metro. Could also check out Springfield although most likely wouldn't be super walkable either.

Also might check out Shirlington village-- I used to love going over that way but haven't been in awhile so not sure what has changed. But there are apartments and condos as well as shopping and restaurants that would be walkable and (prepandemic) they would host events on the weekends- not sure if these have started back up, but there is an email newsletter you can sign up for to get informed about any events and things going on. Also down the street there are some townhome/condo communities that would be walkable as well. I know there's also a dog park pretty close to this, maybe across the street?

Both of your suggestions are great and I wanted to add here that Shirlington has an awesome dog park. Sometimes we drive up from Woodbridge to take our dog there.

I 2nd Kingstowne. The trek to Tysons can be slightly rough depending on the time you leave, but if you aren't doing it every day, then it wouldn't be too bad.

Easy trip to Eisenhower.

Totally, Kingstowne, Franconia, South Van Dorn St area would be ideal for you.
