If I have two houses: one in Virginia and small vacation home (condo) in New York. I live and work in Virginia, and I have Virginia driver license.
In this case, can I register my car in New York (it seems it is okay with NY: https://wallethub.com/answers/ci/can...se-2140693858/ ), but not sure if it is okay with Virginia. I spend majority of my time in Virginia, and visit NY once or twice on weekend (parents live in NY too). You know, VA charges car property tax.
AFAIK, it's more expensive to register a car in NY.
NY has car property tax too? I don't think so.
"Unlike many states, there is no personal property tax in New York. Rather than taxing items such as jewelry and vehicles, only real property is taxed."

No property tax on cars---however, insurance rates are a lot higher.
Oh, true, insurance is a factor too. It still could save some money, but not much if considering auto insurance. Sounds like I should keep my car registered in Virginia, not worth to switch to NY.
In Loudoun County, they have been known (sheriff's office) to cruise neighborhood s and make note/write tickets for cars not legally registered..even if it another county in VA.

Why in another VA counties? It makes no difference. As I know, all cities and counties in Virginia have personal property tax. I do see a few cars in my neighborhood with plate from other states.

Different emissions laws within VA...and also different personal prop tax rates.
