What's up with the job market in this area particularly in the IT sector? I've been trying to find a web development position in or around the Manassas area for the last 6 months but most of the calls I've been getting have been for the DC area such as Arlington, Crystal City, and Alexandria. I've been trying to stay focused on the west side of the 495 beltway since life and commute seem way too hectic for me on the east side.

I was under the impression more companies where moving to suburbia.

From my understanding, Manassas and perhaps Prince William County in general is more a relatively affordable bedroom community than a job center in NOVA. You are indeed more likely to find opportunities in Fairfax County (particularly Tysons Corner), eastern Loudoun Country towards Dulles and, of course, Arlington and DC. (Alexandria growth seems to be flat IMO unless you work for an association or the Patent Trademark Office.)

All of that said, I have heard of some new business coming to PW (the FBI is in the process of opening up a campus, I think?) but I do believe that the Manassas area is known for being more of a commuter destination these days.

Any PWC locals/employees can feel free to educate me otherwise.

the FBI campus is already open, has been since May. Also Quantico is not really in PWC but is a big employer. Also LMCO and a few companies exist in Manassas too. There's work but not for everyone in the county.

I've mainly targeted the areas around Manassas such as the Dulles corridor, Fairfax, Gainesville, Warrenton, and Dumfries. I was under the impression that Quantico was only a military installation. I did finally accept a position with EDS in Falls Church. I was hoping to find something closer to home though.

I suspect that the Dulles area along with maybe Fairfax (City?) would be your best options from those choices. The rest are basically towns that have grown into commuter exurbs.
