Good evening all,

Last year, my fiancee and I ate at an exquisite jewel of a restaurant in the town of Lexington called "The Southern Inn." We had excellent baked shad, pecan pie, and Shenandoah wines. It was the best meal I've thus far enjoyed in Virginia.

Well, our in-laws are coming to town in a couple of weeks from Eastern Europe, and I'd like to take them to a similar fine southern dining type place, only this time in Winchester, where we'll be spending an evening.

So, those in the know regarding Winchester's local culinary gems: where to show off the Shenandoah's food chops to some visiting Europeans?

Many thanks in advance,
Alexander Phipps

Default Wayside Inn

When I've stayed in that area on business one restaurant I liked a lot was the Wayside Inn in Middletown which is only about 5 miles from Winchester. I stopped there for lunch not long ago and it was still very good.

The colonial peanut soup is a must try.

Don't know about Winchester, but I second the Southern Inn in Lexington. We spent Labor day in Lexington and had 3-4 of the best meals we've had in years, and we dine out every weekend here! The Bistro on Main is quite good as well.

Default Then I shall try it...

Thanks for the Wayside Inn recommendation. I'll check them out, and compare it to the other good restaurant in Winchester, an eatery called "One Block West."

Anyone ever hear of it?

I did not enjoy One Block West. JMO

Wayside Inn is OK...but I would not call it fine dining by any means.

I also have enjoyed Wayside Inn, but it is not considered "fine dining." I would be hard pressed to think of a fine dining place in Winchester.

Default Nice!

Many thanks, NOVA, for that recommendation. Although I don't see prices (!), seems like it might be right up our alley...

Wayside seems cool as well. I love this forum!
