My 19 year old son just came home with a ticket for an altered license plate. Apparently he and his brain dead friend decided since his sticker had expired, to just put on another one his friend wasn't using. So when the officer ran the tag, he realized it wasn't supposed to have the '09 sticker on it. The officer told him he'd be looking at like 30 days jail time or something. I can't find any information about this anywhere on the web. Does anyone have any suggestions? THanks.

They got one of the Wahington Redskins for that about twenty years ago. Was it Monte Coleman? Good Skins' trivia. He had "fixed" his with a magic marker. He probably would know if he was charged with a felony. Go to court, and talk to the DA. If they are going to give you "time," they will aloow you to continue, and come back with an attorney. He might as well quit talking about his "helper," now, and start taking responsibilities, that will impress the DA/Judge. Kiss ass and pay a 250 fine, or get a lawyer, pay him/her 2500 and get the same fine, or be a malcontent and get 30 days in the slammer. I hear the fish dinners are horrible.

You'd have to think the judge would be easy on him if he just says it was stupid to do and he's sorry. I really can't imagine them sending him to prison, especially if it's his first run in with the law.

you dont get sent to prision unless you're arrested first or convicted of something. He got a ticket, so just pay the ticket online and move on. If I were your son and have to see the Judge, he'd better be wearing a nice shirt and pants, and shave. It's probably a big fine in traffic court.

It's called "altered registration". My advice is show up on court day and ask the C.A. or officer if he can pay the fine. He shouldn't get any jail time at all. It wasn't stolen, so it should just be the fine plus court costs. Before the court date get the proper registration so you can show the officer at the court date. The judge may even through it out. They are way too busy to deal with this petty stuff.

No advice should be construed as legal advice, just opinion.
