Serious question.

Due to being in the early stages of an economic depression which will most likely last at least another 5 years, I am considering living drastically beneath my means.

Are there any trailer parks in Northern Virginia? Anywhere commutable to the places with jobs (Fairfax, Arlington, etc.).

I know of a few in Maryland, but I'd rather stay in Virginia.

Come on down to Woodbridge. We've got a few! There are several right off of Rt. 1 in the Marumsco area and these are not far from the VRE station.

Serious answer.

You really don't want to be living in a trailer park.

Find a cheap apartment to rent, and cut back elsewhere.

There's a big one smack in the middle of Fairfax City on Lee Hwy called Waples Mobile Home Estates. I've been through there in my school bus and it's pretty nice. I'd sure prefer it to some roach infested cheap apartment.

The other mobile homes parks that survive in Fairfax County are down on Route 1 in Alexandria. Oh wait, there's one on Route 50 in Chantilly too....Airline Parkway.

There's one in Leesburg and one in Lucketts (on Route 15 in LoCo). I think there's at least one somewhere in Manassas.

I would also recommend just renting an apartment. Or getting a boat and living in a marina somewhere.

There is one in Chantilly, called Meadows of Chantilly (not to be confused with The Meadows, which is a condo development) it is off route 50 on Airline Parkway. They are doublewides and are under $50,000. There is a ground rent of about $800/mo, I'm not sure what is included in that, but you should check it out. It looks well maintained and there is security.

You'll find a more homes taking in boarders by renting out their basement floors to meet their mortgage payments. It's been occurring for the last three or four years as prices and taxes escalated. I think about 1 in 3 homes in the neighborhood are doing so at this time. It causes a lot of excessive crowding for street parking.

Fairfax county has a car tax. I'm sure it applies to mobile homes, too. Just something to keep in mind.

I think you're thinking of RVs that are drivable. Mobile homes are semi-permanent structures that are not moved often, if ever, after initial installation. Mobile homes might be subject to property tax if you own the land the home sits on. However, most mobile home parks are rental slots, and thus the lessor is responsible for the property tax.

Yes, I was thinking of drivable RVs.
