My family & I are moving to Arlington (we'll be renting in Ballston area for commute to DC) early Feb. We are looking to rent furnitures/appliances for a 2 br apartment, for 12-18 months.

I hate loan sharks/furniture rental places, but it's the only way employer will pay (yes, the US gov, another example of "prudent" use of taxpayer money). So looking for any recommendations on rental companies that offer good quality (and hopefully new) things at somewhat "reasonable" prices.

Monthly budget is $500 (or hopefully lower) for a 2 bed room unit. Thanks for any suggestions.

Cort Furniture is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. I think they have several locations. If I recall, though, the "special" they advertise is an entire house for $999, about double what you're looking to pay.

We used Rental Furniture - American Furniture Rentals. No problems. One of our lamps wasn't working and they replaced quickly and without question.
Haven't rented appliances though.

Does American Furniture Rental service Northern VA (from their Richmond VA or Jessup MD locations)? I will call to find out. I rented from CORT before, very expensive (got to pay off Warren Buffett), but reasonable quality and was quick delivering and picking up, and customer service was OK. Years back I went to a few rental places (Rent-A-Center and Colortyme I think) down south, and they sure feel like pawn shops (and treat people like it too).
