What's with all the schools allowing various churches to hold their services inside the school? Are these churches paying rent? What happened to the separation of church & state? Are my tax dollars funding this? I'm just new here, so I'm wondering what in the world is goin on...

Oh please, they rent the space on Sundays and it has nothing to do with the public school system on Monday.

No, your tax dollars are not funding this and btw it happens all over the country.

Why don't you just ask someone in your school before making a big deal about it? Sheesh.......

The churches are paying rent and it brings in revenue for the school systems. I worked security at a hindu festival at Patrick Henry ES in Alexandria a while back so it aint just Christian churches that are doing this.

Yes, they pay rent and are given equal access just like all other groups. In fact Fairfax County used to charge higher rent for the churches until a judge ruled that doing so was discriminatory and ordered the county to charge everyone equally.

Sheeze. Only in Fairfax, and other similar liberal bastions, would they try to discriminate against a group because they were religious.

Incidently, the "seperation of church and state" is designed to protect the doctrine of the church. It limits the governments interferance with the order of the church. That law does not prohibit prayer or religious activity in government properties. And yes, thank you to all who replied, we do pay for renting space in public schools.

Thank you for your clarity. The 'establishment of religion' clause in the 1st Amendment protects religion from government intrusion.

Historically, it's the arch-conservative bastions in the country that have been the most intolerant of religious differences. Sheeze.
