What are good options for a short term rental situation? It may take a while for us to sell our home in the New Orleans area, so I may have to move to DC sans wife. I will be working in the Alexandria area, but can only spend under $1000 per month on rent. The lease has to be pretty flexible since I would find something permanent when our home sold. I see some ads for townhome basement rentals. Are these a viable option?

Have you checked the craigslist rental section?

Yes, but many of the rentals are for a room and shared facilities. I need a basement type rental that has a kitchen and full bath.

Unfortunately, it's the budget that is limiting your options near Alexandria. If you look further out and can do the commute, you may find an apartment in your price range.
