You almost make that sound like a bad thing. I'm all for gun rights but come on pointing a rifle out of your bedroom window? Surely you realize that anyone who sees that is going to think you're trying to MURDER them or someone in the neighborhood right? That's why the police might need to show up.

I know what you're trying to say. Annandale has changed greatly and it's overpopulated but that's just the way of the day. Cities grow new people move in.

What will the 2010 census say, has it changed much from 2000?
Well being a minority that moved to the area last year I can safely say that I'm contributing to the rise in population as a whole. But you realize that you're killing your argument when you post figures that show whites having a strong majority right?

Are you actually surprised that you'd get a visit from the swat team if you sight in your rifle out your bedroom window like your the DC sniper?

Whites under the age of 25 is probably already a minority.

In the 2008-2009 school year, FCPS was 47.7% White; 18.3% Asian American; 17.1% Hispanic; 10.6% African American; 0.3% American Indian; and 5.7% Multiracial. [1]

Duh, I understand all that.

My point was simply that this area has changed to the point that you come-latelies couldn't begin to imagine.

And that something that was once so common (discharging a firearm in Annandale) now conjures images of the DC sniper....a horror in itself that could scarcely have been imagined back in the 50's.

I should have mentioned that my bedroom window opened to a 35 acre "yard"...there was not another house in sight. Pop was a major landowner in Annandale and bought the tract in 1946. The construction of the Beltway took a few acres and the rest was sold off over the years, except for the 2.2 acres my house is on. That bedroom window I once fired from is now my wife's sewing room....

I wasn't trying to be disrespectful with my post or anything; It's just that I took it like you were surprised that the SWAT team would show up now if you were pointing your gun out the window. After the sniper thing, I'm sure you can understand why. Obviously, if you look out your window and there isn't another house in sight that's another story.

No offense taken, j....the SWAT comment was meant as a kind of "how times have changed" kind of thing....I have no doubts about what would happen if you shot a gun in Annandale now. And rightfully so....NO WAY one should be allowed to fire a gun in Annandale nowadays!

When I started work at the Pentagon, the place was wide open....anybody could walk the halls (except some restricted corridors), now they don't even want you in the parking lot if you don't belong there. Before my time, but my grandfather told me that when he was a young man, there was no fence around the White House....you could walk right up and knock on the door.

Sheesh, I used to hate old farts that constantly reminisced about the "good old days"....now I am one! LOL
